Minnesota is usually over looked by most travelers, i have no idea why! Minnesota has so many activities as attraction to satisfy any holiday goers interests. Minnesota is a cultural and intellectual state showing some of Americas biggest beauties.
Pick a Lake and a Seasonal Activity
Minnesota is known as the land of 10,000 lakes. In fact there are 11,842. If you come during the spring or summer consider heading north to the Boundary Waters for some canoeing and gorgeous scenery. If you want to stay in the Twin Cities, go to Lake Harriet or Lake Calhoun where you can rent a standup paddleboard, kayak, or paddle boat. If you visit during the winter lace up a pair of skates and head to the nearest frozen lake. Alternatively, the Depot Skating Rink is a popular destination for dates and families alike.
Shop ‘Till You Drop in the Mall of America
With over 400 stores the Mall of America is the largest mall in the United States. Over 40 million people visit the mall each year, making it the most visited mall in the world! You can spend an entire day without betting bored. Nickelodeon Universe, an indoor theme park, is housed in the center of the mall. There’s even an aquarium, the Sea Life Minnesota Aquarium, on the bottom floor. If you get tired of shopping, going on rides, or looking at the fish, you can always watch a movie. The mall is a short drive away from the airport, making it a great place to spend the day at before an evening flight or stay at the hotel with a waterpark that’s attached to the mall or at one of the other hotels nearby.
Enjoy the Theater Scene
When you think of great theater in the United States you probably think of New York and Chicago, but you would be remiss not to think of Minnesota. Minnesota is one of the top ten states with the highest concentration of theaters per capita. The Ordway Center is located in downtown St. Paul and hosts a number of cultural events from touring Broadway plays to Minnesota Operas and other local based performing companies. The Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis puts on wonderful plays. If you come around the holidays be sure to check out its performance of “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens.
Watch a Sports Game
The Minnesota Twins are Minnesota’s Major League Baseball team. They play in Target Field in downtown Minneapolis, which ESPN voted the #1 baseball experience in North America when the field opened in 2010. Even five years later it’s still a great experience. If you visit during the winter then go to the Excel Energy Center in downtown St. Paul to watch the Minnesota Wild play.
Minnesota Science Museum
Let your inner nerd come out and explore the Minnesota Science Museum. There are exhibits on the human body, dinosaurs and fossils, and much more. The museum has a dual-screen IMAX/Omnimax theater that makes you feel almost like you’re actually in the Amazon jungle or Alaskan glaciers. The Science Museum is located in downtown St. Paul near the Ordway and Excel Energy Center, making it the perfect activity before watching a hockey game or theater performance.
